NEW PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF SAINT KITTS AND NEVIS PRESENTS CREDENTIALS

19951020 Biographical Note

Lee Llewellyn Moore, the new Permanent Representative of Saint Kitts and Nevis to the United Nations, presented his credentials today to Secretary- General Boutros Boutros-Ghali.

Mr. Moore, an attorney, was Prime Minister of his country from 1971 until 1980, and also Attorney General from 1971 until 1979. He was Chief Counsel for the Commission of Inquiry, Commonwealth of Bahamas (1983 to 1994), and Leader of the Opposition of Saint Kitts-Nevis (1980 to 1984). He has since been working in private legal practice.

Born in Saint Kitts-Nevis on 15 February 1939, and educated locally until being awarded a Cambridge Overseas Higher School Certificate, Mr. Moore attended the University of London, Kings College (1959-1965), where he received his Bachelor of Laws and Master of Laws. In 1994 he was admitted to the Inner Bar as one of Her Majesty's Counsel (Q.C.).

During his career, Mr. Moore attended a number of conferences, including Regional (CARICOM) Conferences, the Commonwealth Law Ministers' Conference, and a Saint Kitts-Nevis Constitutional Conference.

Earlier in his career, Mr. Moore was Assistant Master of Saint Kitts- Nevis Grammar School (1958-1959), lecturer in law at Birmingham Polytechnic in the United Kingdom (1966-1967). He is a former President of the Students Union at King's College, London, and President of the West Indian Students Union in London.

Since 1978 Mr. Moore has been President of Saint Kitts-Nevis Trades and Labour Union. He was President of the Rotary Club of Saint Kitts (1975-1976) and holds awards for debating, made in London in 1963 and 1964.
